What can I expect?

If you are interested in receiving Developmental Education you can fill in the referral form online. If you’re not sure, would like more information or have any questions reach out to Claudia via phone or email.  After Claudia receives your referral, Claudia will be in touch to discuss areas of focus, frequency of support and where you would like supports to be delivered. A service agreement and consent form will then be sent out for you to sign. Once signed, Claudia will be able to start seeing you!The first initial visit will focus on gathering relevant information, choosing goals and getting to know each other!

What age group do you support?

Claudia provides Developmental Education across the lifespan including children, teenagers, and adults.

Where can therapy session be held?

Therapy sessions can occur anywhere you would prefer or is suitable.  This could be at home, school, kindergarten or in the community (such as library, community centre or café).

How long are sessions?

Therapy sessions are usually 60 minutes, on either a fortnightly or weekly basis. This can be discussed during the referral process or initial meeting.

What is the difference between DE and OT?

Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Developmental Educators (DEs) are both allied health professionals who help people build the skills they need for everyday life and promote quality of life.Occupational Therapists often focus on improving independence with daily activities by addressing physical, sensory, cognitive, or environmental barriers. They may assess the need for assistive technology, or home modifications to promote safety and independence. Developmental Educators specialise in supporting people with disabilities to develop functional life skills, build independence, and skill development. We work with individuals to develop functional life skills across various domains including cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, communication, sensory, self-care and daily living. We work alongside individuals to reduce barriers, promote inclusion, and enhance quality of life and participation within variety of settings, including home, school, employment and within the community. Many people benefit from working with both an Occupational Therapist and a Developmental Educator. When this happens, it is important that they work together to ensure their supports complement each other rather than duplicate services. For example, a Developmental Educator may focus on emotional regulation and social skills, while an Occupational Therapist works on fine and gross motor skills.
